Education, Health and Care (EHC) Plans are legal documents and must be reviewed each year.
Our Approach
At Blackfriars Academy, we work in close partnership with our students, their families, and a range of professionals across education, health and care. Our aim is to ensure that each EHCP remains accurate, meaningful and reflective of the student’s current needs, while enabling them to continue making progress towards their agreed outcomes.
From Year 9 onwards, all annual reviews place a strong focus on Preparation for Adulthood (PfA), which includes the four key areas:
- Training and Employment
- Independent Living
- Friends, Relationships and Community
- Health and Wellbeing
Why Annual Reviews Matter
The EHCP Annual Review is a statutory process and an important opportunity to:
- Monitor each student’s progress towards their outcomes
- Enable students to actively participate in their review and share their views
- Ensure the EHCP remains relevant and up to date as students move through different key stages
- Plan and support transition into further education and beyond
By introducing Preparation for Adulthood themes from Year 7, we help students develop the confidence, skills and support networks needed to flourish both in school and to prepare them for life beyond Blackfriars Academy.
