Operation encompass

Operation Encompass is a safeguarding partnership between the police and schools that helps support children who experience domestic abuse.

When police attend a domestic abuse incident involving a child, Operation Encompass ensures that the child’s school is informed before the next school day. This information is shared securely with the school’s trained Designated Safeguarding Lead (Key Adult), so the child can be offered appropriate care and understanding when they arrive at school.

Operation Encompass does not investigate families or take action against parents. Its purpose is simply to make sure schools are aware and able to support a child’s wellbeing at a time when they may need it most.

Established in 2010, Operation Encompass is now used across the UK and has helped hundreds of thousands of children. Its aim is to ensure that every child, in every school, receives timely support, helping to reduce the long-term impact that experiencing domestic abuse can have on a child’s wellbeing and education.
